New Sentinel Tendermint based decentralized VPN client now available

New Sentinel Tendermint based decentralized VPN client now available

Sentinel, an interoperable networking layer for distributed services with a decentralized VPN (dVPN) as a first use case, announced today that the new Sentinel Tendermint based dVPN Client (v0.1.2) is now available for download on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The v0.1.2 Client has made significant strides with the addition of a new multi-account management solution (currently supporting the Sentinel Testnet wallets) as well as an in-client Node Docker Management functionality.

Not only does the new update make it easy for users to manage multiple wallets effortlessly in the open-source desktop client, but the update also makes it extremely easy for dVPN node hosts to manage multiple nodes and their respective dockers all in the same client.

“With the Sentinel Tendermint Mainnet approaching, there is a high degree of focus on network economics which involves not only the economic model for Sentinel’s future validators but also the economic model for bandwidth providers (dVPN, etc.). While it is extremely important to ensure that the public is aware of the Sentinel dVPN network and is actively able to consume bandwidth from it, it’s equally as important to ensure a low entry barrier for anyone to monetize by becoming a dVPN node or relay host. The v0.1.2 Client brings us a step further towards optimizing participant experience in preparation for the shift off of the current Tendermint Testnet.”
– The Sentinel Team

New Features with the v0.1.2 Client Release

Node Management Tools, Multiple Account Creation & Management, Dynamic token locking for dVPN usage, dVPN Moniker & more…

1) Node Management Tools (NMT)

Accessible only via the Sentinel Tendermint Testnet (STT) v1.1

After being tested in the internal v0.1.1 release, the in-wallet Node Management Tools for Ethereum & Tendermint dVPN Nodes and are now available in order to increase the operational efficiency of dVPN node management.

With this initial release of the tools, users can view all of their hosted dVPN nodes in the same interface and monitor the status and health of these nodes.

In the future, Node Management Tools will receive a heavy upgrade in order to be able to facilitate deployment, updating, & deletion of a node. These features will also be provided for hosts of the upcoming Sentinel dChat application which will also be powered by the Sentinel Ecosystem as a complimentary security-centric application to the dVPN.

In the future, there will be a standalone Sentinel Node Management Tools application that will enable node hosts to manage an array of nodes easily right from their own Desktop or Mobile.

2) Create & Manage Multiple Accounts on STT v1.1

Manage multiple wallets right from the Sentinel Desktop Client

The Sentinel team realized that node hosts prefer to use new or different wallet addresses to run nodes (as node hosts) and connect to the dVPN themselves (as clients)rather than to use the main wallet they store their tokens in. In order to aid users in the process of managing multiple wallets, the v0.1.2 client now accommodates multiple logins & account switching.

Multi-Wallet Management is currently possible within the Sentinel Desktop Client v0.1.2 on the Sentinel Tendermint Testnet (STT) v1.1

Sentinel Desktop Client — Manage multiple wallets with the clients

Users can manage multiple wallets or choose to take any of the actions below:

  1. Create Account — users have the option to create a secondary account (or more) right within the wallet (ideal for node hosts that want to keep their earnings & consumption independent of each other)
  2. Recover Account — by entering a new username & password along with an older seed
  3. Switch Network — used to easily toggle between Sentinel’s ETH & Tendermint dVPN testnets

3) Dynamic locking of Tokens as opposed to the fixed 100 tokens to be locked

Sentinel dVPN  enables users to select between locking available TSENT v/s locking based on a specific requirement of bandwidth

The current v0.1.2 release features the dynamic locking of tokens where users who plan to utilize a specific budget in order to consume dVPN services can lock the desired tokens beforehand.

This payment gateway mechanism and the actual “provability” of the exchange of resources is one of the key innovations and areas of focus that will be the subject of great documentation and coverage in the journey ahead.

Now, no more auto-disconnect after consuming 1GB. Sentinel dVPN also enables users to lock tokens based on data required

Sentinel dVPN Node Host Update

1) Added the dVPN Moniker — ETH & Tendermint

The dVPN Moniker was quite an important field to be added in order for nodes to build a reputation among users by helping users associate with their own custom ID or moniker. This moniker can represent an entity, a group, or an independent node.

2) Fixed string encoding error — ETH & Tendermint

A string encoding error that persisted in the latest update and has been fixed in the current release.

Sentinel Network

Sentinel, a network layer that enables a true p2p and decentralized applications and resources marketplace. Sentinel enables anyone to create Public and Private networks that provide access to both free and incentivized, and also payment method agnostic (pre-paid/escrow/post-paid) services (dApps) & distributed resources, enabling its clients to become both producers and consumers in the network.

Sentinel utilizes locking, staking and multi-sig directly from Tendermint core and Cosmos SDK and aims to fully eliminate the disadvantages of previous generation protocols, that couldn’t scale due to limitations of the blockchain they share with other dApps or that have an unsustainable economic model that reduces usability or access to the product they offer.
