Metis DAO Unveils Andromeda to Address the Current Issues of Scalability and Compatibility

Blockchain protocol Metis DAO, has revealed its plans to release Andromeda on the Optimism framework in the second week of November. Metis DAO disclosed that launching Andromeda will improve scalability, reach a faster consensus, and facilitate DAC staking and mining on Layer 2.

Metis has revealed it had been deliberating for weeks prior to the announcement. The team is confident that launching the Andromeda Layer 2 will not affect decentralization, but improve its overall structure.

Addressing the Challenges DApps Migration

Metis DAO stated that launching Andromeda is necessary to facilitate the migration of DApps to Layer 2. In addition, it will enable everyone to build decentralized businesses on-chain, with the functions of a real world company.

Prior to the announcement, Metis DAO relied on EVM Compatibility for deploying DApps on Optimism -a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. EVM Compatibility was once effective and simple, as Optimism offered lower transaction fees and lower latency through its Optimistic Rollups.

Since Optimistic Rollups are Layer 2 scaling solutions, they enjoy the benefits of Ethereum’s security and decentralization. However, it became increasingly complex for current Ethereum DApps to migrate to Layer 2 scaling due to compatibility issues.

With the increased activity taking place on the network, settling for this model meant that DApps would be forced to modify its code that supported the Ethereum infrastructure. Hence, the reason Optimism came up with a new model ‘Optimism Virtual Machine 2.0 (OVM 2.0) based on EVM.’

According to Metis team, OVM 2.0 isn’t in line with the DAO’s vision. Switching to it would mean compromising on one of the core concepts of the DAO – decentralization. Going ahead with this model would mean altering the Optimistic Rollups, which would become a challenge to onchain transactions.

An Ultimate Breakthrough for DApps

In a bid to retain decentralization and work within the newly proposed OVM infrastructure, the project revealed it will employ the Metis Ranger System, where the rangers of the DAO will reach a consensus before allowing the Verifiers to initiate fraud proofs and challenge transactions via the Peer Nodes.

The challenge will take place in Layer 1 before finalization. The Ranger System will use a sequencer pool model that will allow Verifiers to be added to the pool once it’s finally opened.

According to Metis, the ranger system will shorten the transaction finalization window. The system serves as a check of the overall condition of the validation network to improve security.

The Metis project plans to deploy a new testnet with EVM Equivalence before the end of the week, replacing the current Dragonfire testnet. It is in a bid to ensure that everything goes perfectly before a new round of testing on DAC Staking and Mining offering begins and Andromeda releases.

Offering More than just Scalability

According to Metis DAO, launching Andromeda will offer more than just scalability on the Layer 2 network. It will offer enhanced security and allow the validation of smart contract calls.

The Peer Nodes will checkmate fraud proofs and reach consensus faster. In addition, developers won’t need to modify the EVM smart contracts of their DApps with Andromeda.
