OP Crypto: Former Huobi exec raises $25M to form blockchain venture fund

OP Crypto Capital Management, a new crypto venture capital firm has officially announced its formation. The venture firm is backed by Huobi Ventures, Galaxy Digital’s Vision Hill FoF Platform,  Digital Currency Group, Mirana Ventures (Bybit), and The Brooker Group.

The firm will focus on bridging the gap between CeFi, DeFi, and the Metaverse through investing in projects looking to shape the future of corporate governance and transfer power from centralized entities in the Web 2.0 world to content creators/users in the upcoming Web 3.0 world.

Ultimately, OP Crypto aims to help founders in their earliest stages build projects with a global reach. The letters “OP” are the start of many different adjectives that describe the culture and the way the firm will be run, namely Open, Operational and Opportune.

Founded by Former Huobi Executive

“As someone who has spent half of my life in both the US and China, I am in a unique position to be the go-to contact for Asian enterprises seeking to reach a US audience, as well as for US projects looking to access the Asia market.”
– David Gan, the Founder of OP Crypto Capital Management Ltd.

David’s experience in leading Huobi Labs and Huobi’s overseas investments arm and accelerating top tier blockchain projects into the Asian market, including Polkadot and Algorand back in early 2019, puts the firm in the optimal position to help early-stage portfolio companies, which often struggle to mount a global go-to-market effort, scale their communities and attract developers in the Asia markets.

With team members bringing experience and deep relationships at several exchanges, including Huobi, Binance, OKex in addition to Republic and Coinlist, OP Crypto seeks to back innovative founders looking to build game-changing business models and provide these founders with the tools and expertise necessary to take their products and visions to the next level.

“As the first listed company in Asia to invest in DeFi and dApps, we observed a growing number of Asia-based DeFi projects in the region that are about to change the financial services landscape. The Brooker Group anticipates more disruptive projects booming in APAC with the new venture capital fund.”
– Varit Bulakul, Head of Digital Asset Division at The Brooker Group
