Blockchain platform Lisk unveils roadmap to ecosystem interoperability

Lisk, a platform for building blockchain applications using JavaScript, today unveiled its roadmap to full ecosystem interoperability; with each phase represented by a different gemstone.

Revealed at the Lisk.js event, the implementation of the Sapphire phase for Lisk will begin immediately and will center on the highly anticipated launch of Lisk’s bespoke interoperability solution, connecting the entire Lisk ecosystem for the first time.

Roadmap

The new roadmap outlines the network’s transformation from Quartz to Diamond and describes the increase in capabilities as the technology advances through 6 unique roadmap phases.

Currently, in its fourth phase, Emerald, which symbolizes a new beginning and good health, the Lisk network will now transition into its Sapphire phase, bringing full interoperability to the Lisk blockchain application platform. Below is a chronological list of the phases outlined in the Lisk roadmap.

“In conceptualizing our roadmap to complete ecosystem interoperability, we were struck by the image of the diamond, the multifaceted emblem of invincibility, purity, and perfection that represents everything we hope to achieve. To reach this point, Lisk will traverse through the gemstones, most immediately through Emerald to Sapphire, building the pathway to the future reveal of the Lisk blockchain application platform’s final form: Diamond. The coming months are going to be enormously exciting and we encourage developers to get involved right now by engaging with our accessible code and loyal community.”

Lisk.js

At Lisk.js, Lisk revealed its fully researched interoperability solution and the consequent publication of a series of research papers known as LIPs (Lisk Improvement Proposals). Each of the 17 LIPs on interoperability details a specific piece of research to achieve Lisk interoperability. Lisk publishes each LIP in advance of implementation to allow for continued peer reviews and community feedback, as well as a progressive and transparent implementation.

Diamond, the final phase of Lisk’s roadmap, will see full interoperability with other blockchain protocols, with possible candidates include Ethereum and Polkadot, enhancing the scalability of the entire industry. While blockchain networks differ in security, privacy, and throughput, interoperability will allow cross-communication between varying networks; circumnavigating the hindrances associated with different blockchain networks. Continued expansion and innovation in the space of blockchain interoperability will lead to greater accessibility, allowing for wide-scale use and mass adoption.

Lisk is an open-source blockchain application platform and was founded by Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows in 2016 and raised over 14,000 bitcoin (BTC) in its initial coin offering, making it one of the most successful crowdfunds at that time. With a goal of making blockchain technology accessible for everyone; Lisk’s software development kit (SDK) allows developers to build blockchain applications in JavaScript, the world’s most widely used programming language.
