Qtum launches Arch-Linux package for simple use of Linux tools

Today, Qtum the open-source public blockchain platform, has published an Arch User Repository (AUR) package for Arch Linux-based systems. Developers now have access to the complete and working installation of Qtum using the Arch Linux tools that they are accustomed to.

Qtum gives developers the ability to use to open-source software by ensuring that the Qtum core technology runs across Arch or Arch Linux-based distributions. Focused on simplicity, Qtum’s AUR package compiles Qtum on an Arch Linux system and generates a menu entry available on all desktops.

The Qtum team recommends using the source package so that people can trust the final build more and take advantage of some optimizations that Arch Linux adds via the makepkg.conf config file. Additionally, binary stripping and linker optimizations should provide improved performance.

Arch Linux is its own entity in the Linux ecosystem. For example, Ubuntu is based on Debian and Centos on Redhat. Arch is a rolling distribution, which means that it always uses the latest sources and tools via frequent updates — in general, the system will update on Arch systems as newer stable versions of each package comes out. Arch has a few different distributions based on it, the most popular being Manjaro.

The AUR is a community-driven repository for Arch users, and this specific repository is maintained by the Qtum Chain Foundation and shouldn’t imply an endorsement from the Linux Foundation or community.
