Bitcoin wallet app company Wirex granted UK e-money license

Wirex Limited, the company behind popular bitcoin and cryptocurrency wallet platform Wirex announced today they have been granted an e-money license by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The license helps reassure users that Wirex is trustworthy and committed to maintaining high compliance standards within its operations. Wirex has a 4-year track record and reports to have 1.8 million users and $2 billion worth of transactions to date.

Wirex joins a select group of just three cryptocurrency related businesses to hold the license.

“Acquiring an FCA license has been our ambition since we started the company, so we’re thrilled to be at this point,” says Wirex co-founder Dmitry Lazarichev. “The license gives us the freedom to optimize our e-money offering, which will lead to lower costs and fees for our customers.”

Next, Wirex plans to pursue similar accreditation in other countries.

“We’re on a path of continuous improvement and focusing on these important milestones is key to achieving our ambitious global expansion plans. The FCA e-money license is just the first step to creating a broad and versatile offering that meets the varying needs of consumers worldwide,” Wirex co-founder Pavel Matveev revealed.
