Melonport hosting blockchain developer hackathon May 17th

Melonport AG has invited members of the blockchain community and also developers looking to enter into the world of blockchain to take part in a hackathon at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on May 17.

Melonport AG, a Swiss company for technology regulated investment funds, has announced a three-day Reinvent Finance Hackathon event beginning on Thursday, May 17th. With the event, the Swiss company plans to help introduce new developers to the world of blockchain, aid the development of modules for the Melon Protocol, and create industry-specific programs that help to integrate blockchain into the traditional IT infrastructure.

The Hackathon will take place over 3-days and looks to host a technical group of seasoned blockchain developers and companies alongside developers from outside the world of blockchain who are looking to jump into the field ‘head first.’

“The hackathon is a wonderful opportunity to engage with leaders in the blockchain community and mix with some of the brightest and best upcoming developers in the industry. As long as you have a decent grasp of blockchain and a measure of practical experience in computer science, we’re pretty sure you can bring a unique perspective to the discussion.”

Melonport CEO Mona El Isa

The team at Melonport expects attendees to get to grips with common problems faced by the finance industry, and those who distinguish themselves can expect to be offered a collaborative role by the fast-moving private company.  Participants will also get a chance to develop modules and industry-specific programs tailored to better integrate blockchain into the traditional IT infrastructure.

At stake is a prize pool with the overall hackathon champion to be awarded the sum of CHF 25,000, paid in MLN tokens. However, eight winning groups will also receive 2,500 each and all competitors will claim some form of participation prize irrespective of performance.

The Melon crypto asset management protocol, whose front and backend are hosted and executed on decentralized platforms, was created by Melonport Co-Founders Mona El Isa and Reto Trinkler, both of whom share the distinction of having cracked Forbes magazine’s “Top 30 under 30” list in separate years. The company issued almost 600,000 MLN tokens six months after Melonport launched, raising CHF 2.5 million in under 10 minutes.

Interested parties can register for the Melonport hackathon up until May 1. Participants will work in groups of up to five people, dissecting topics they have chosen from a shortlist compiled by Melonport and partners. Advisors will also be on hand to assist where necessary.
