CME Group waives fees on new bitcoin price indices for 2017

CME officially launched the new products in collaboration with Crypto Facilities, a London-based digital assets trading platform, back on November 14, 2016.

CME Group, the operator of the world’s largest options and futures exchange, announced today that its recently formed bitcoin indices will have no data fees for the rest of 2017.

Methods for accessing the BRTI and BRR, with fees waived through December 31, 2017:

  • CME Datamine cloud-based API
  • CME Market Data Platform (MDP 3.0)
  • and the CME Group website.

The cloud-based API data became available this past January.

CME CF Bitcoin Real-Time Index (BRTI)

The BRTI aggregates global demand to buy and sell bitcoin into a consolidated order book and reflects the fair, instantaneous U.S. dollar price of bitcoin. It is geared toward low latency and timeliness and is based entirely on forward-looking input data. The BRTI is published once every second and is suitable for marking portfolios, executing intra-day bitcoin transactions, and risk management.

CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate (BRR)

The BRR aggregates the trade flow of major bitcoin spot exchanges during a specific calculation window into a once-a-day reference rate of the U.S. dollar price of bitcoin. Calculation rules are geared toward a maximum of transparency and real-time replicability in underlying spot markets. CME Group and Crypto Facilities designed the BRR around the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks.
